The volunteer sign-up steps have changed for this year's rides. Instead of signing up with Barry and Maradee, we'd like to have you use the Ride the Rim website (www.RideTheRim2017.com) for a couple of reasons. First, all volunteers will receive a t-shirt this year and the simplest way to ensure correct size and timely delivery is to log on to the website, go to the Volunteer tab and follow the instructions. Read the descriptions of and shifts for each of the tasks; they will not surprise any of you. Check the box for the job you would like to do, and fill in the personal info slots, being sure to include your t-shirt size. In the comments box, please share that 1)you are volunteering as part of the Friends of Crater Lake group, 2)list previous volunteer roles and preference, AND 3)list which weekend(s) you are available to volunteer. If you are available and willing for both weekends, this is where to include that information. And, thank you very much.
Again this year, Lost Creek Campground will be open and free for Ride the Rim volunteers on both Fridays (September 8 and 15). The moon was an overwhelming sight from there last year. We talked about ways to minimize some of the campground confusion that occurred last year. First, NPSCL folks will post signs at both park entrances to alert guests that Lost Creek Campground will be closed those Fridays due to a special event. We will be part of that special event and the campground will be open to us - even for trailers (small ones). We will also provide some sort of identifying info to post on your vehicle dashboard to simplify the verification process in case any rangers come be to police the campground.
Friends volunteers will be wearing the Friends vests again. Rest stops will also have NPS radios for emergency use only. Barry and I will meet with campers at Lost Creek on Friday night to hand out radios, vests, and volunteer t-shirts. We will meet with non-camping volunteers at Park HQ early Saturday morning - likely between 6:30 and 7 so that we can get to our work station before 7:30. We will be working through those details over the next months and will follow up with those details.
So, the real purpose of this email is to nudge you to the website to volunteer and when you do that, please drop me an email to let me know that you've completed that step. I still want to track our volunteers and our hours for the event wrap-up in our fall/winter newsletter.
Thanks everybody - maradeeFind out more »
